Question / Issue
How to update your software on computers without an Internet connection

Answer / Solution

To update your Buzz Tools program on a computer with an internet connection: Open your software and use the Help > Check for Updates .

If your computer doesn't have Internet access you can update it following these steps:

Items you will need

  • USB Flash drive with 30 MB of free space

Step 1

Launch the Buzz Tools software program on the computer you want to update. Use Help > About to find out what version is currently installed. Make a note of the version number.

Step 2

Find a computer that is connected to high-speed broadband, and that allows you to download sizable files. Some public Wi-Fi networks limit the size of files that you are able to download, so finding a computer at a company or residence is a better bet than attempting this in a cafĂ© or a library.

Step 3

Open a Web browser and go to https://www.BuzzTools.com/support.

  • If you have a supported version, it will be listed here. Click on the corresponding Software Resources button, making sure the product and version are the same. For example, if you are running BuzzXplore v2, you need to find support for BuzzXplore version 2 and not BuzzXplore version 4.
  • If your software version isn't listed here or you have a product not shown, click the Find support resources for older versions link at the bottom of the page. Find your software and version on the page. Click on the corresponding Software Resources button, making sure the product and version are the same. Downloads are no longer available for extremely old products or software with known compatibility issues with current Windows versions.

Step 4

Once you have opened the support page for your product, locate the software download link on the right side of the page. Save the file in an easy-to-find location, such as the Desktop. If you do not see this option, the download went to your downloads folder which is usually in your documents and is usually called Downloads or My Downloads.

Step 5

When the file has finished downloading, insert a USB drive into the computer. Drag the downloaded file onto the flash drive, which is found by selecting "My Computer" from under the Windows Start menu.

Step 6

When the update has finished copying to the flash drive, remove it from the computer and take it to the computer that needs updating.

Step 7

On the computer that needs updating, insert the flash drive and navigate to the update file (Windows Start > My Computer). Double click on the file to run the update program. When the software installation has completed the software update program may ask if it can check the web for an update. Uncheck the box and click Finish.
