Question / Issue
I downloaded a free design collection onto my computer but now I can't find it.

Answer / Solution

This can be so frustrating! You know you have downloaded the designs but where did you (or your computer) put them! We suggest that in the future you always download your designs into a specific folder to avoid this problem. For example, you might create a subfolder in your My Documents folder called My Downloads.

But what about all the designs you have already downloaded and lost somewhere on your computer? To find where they are located, it is often easiest to use BuzzXplore® because it is especially created to help the embroidery or cross-stitch hobbyist with their collections, doesn't require you "pre-load" your designs into it, and so much more.

BuzzXplore® Locate a File or Folder

When you open BuzzXplore, turn on your file filter by choosing View > Files of Type and select only embroidery. If you know the specific format you lost, you can limit your display further by choosing only that format. You can then browse your folders by just clicking on them. Or use the Locate > Next Folder with Files to quickly jump to the next folder that contains files of the type(s) you are currently including.

You can also use the Locate > Files or Folders command to find your files. Fill in the name of the file or folder you are looking for in the Enter Name field. You may use standard wildcard characters in your search, where * is the wild card replacement for any number of trailing characters and ? Is the wild card replacement for a single character. If you use the Find All option, a new catalog will open with the results of the search. Or you can find matching files one at a time and use the Locate > Next to move to the next file.

Windows Find

In addition to using the BuzzXplore Locate tools, you can use the Windows Find utility from within BuzzXplore. Right click on any folder in the Folder pane and choose Find or Search from the Popup menu. The actual name displayed will depend on the version of Windows® you are running.

Fill in any of the information you might have about the file such as partial name, extension and perhaps date range. Also, be sure to specify the folder or drive you want to search for the files or folders. The files you locate using the Windows Find utility are listed in a separate window that is not part of BuzzXplore.

Once you see the desired files, you have two options. First, if the file type is supported by BuzzXplore, you can click on the desired file with your alternate mouse button and choose BuzzXplore® from the Popup menu. BuzzXplore starts and browsers the appropriate folder.  Or you can look at what folder the file is in and then navigate to it manually from within BuzzXplore.

For further directions on using the Windows® Find utility, please refer to a Microsoft® Windows® Reference.
